The Old Man of the Sea. Er…not you, Mr Stockwin.
You can’t get much better than this on a blog. The most famous warship in the world, HMS Victory, written about by one of our foremost naval authors, Julian Stockwin.
Just sit there and breathe in the ocean! Or if you’re like me, feel seasick 😉
On reflection, since ships are always referred to in the feminine gender, maybe the title of this post should be ‘Old Lady of the Sea’. That’s always seemed odd to me when warships were rated on sheer brute force; by what weight of iron their broadsides could hurl at an enemy vessel.
But they do say the female of the species is more deadly than the male 😉
